Daily Mail - 22 May 2006
If you're a stressed-out urbanite looking for an escape from the rat-race, book a weekend stay in Glenmalure, a cluster of Scandinavian-built log cabins tucked away on a south-west-facing hillside in Co. Wicklow, only a short drive from Dublin. With spectacular views across Ireland's longest and most majestic valley, there's the chance to relax and unwind in pure tranquility, with only the murmur of the distant Avonbeg river to break the silence. The cabins are totally luxerious, with fully-fitted kitchen, en-suite bedrooms, CD and DVD player and satelite tv. If you're blessed with good weather during your stay, dine al fresco on the deck area complete with gas barbeque and garden furniture. And if you're more of an active soul, make the most of country living with activities such as golfing, hill walking, angling, canoeing and hourse riding. The famous, and equally stunning, Glendalough is a short drive away and, of course, you'll find a healthy number of vibrant pubs and restaurants nearby. Prices start from €300 for a two night weekend break and cabins sleep up to six people.

Get Outta Town: The Glenmalure valley is a recharge-the-batteries
kind of retreat. Up there you'll find the ultimate hideaway - self-catering
log cabins built using 100-year-old spruce on the exterior and solid
pine on the interior, nestled up in the Wicklow hillside with glorious
views down the glacial valley. Wood-burning stoves and Norwegian roof
heating systems make them cosy for the winter, while the verandas make
it a glorious place to chill out to the sound of the Avonbeg river when
the weather gets a bit warmer. This little cluster of cabins on the
hill is close to Glendalough, Powerscourt and Glenmalure golf club so
you can tank yourself up with lots of fresh air.

Cosy and homely... sense of the exotic... attractive for
those with limited free time who don't want to spend the weekend in
their cars.

I prefer to have my breakfast in the morning air of the
Wicklow Mountains, gazing down through the gorge of the longest glacial
valley in the British Isles. And that's the memory I will take away
from my holiday at the 4-star Scandinavian Glenmalure Log Cabins this
summer.
The fresh mountain air, the pine scented balmy evening
as the barbecue sizzled, the sun setting over the mountains. And the
views that take your breath away just as much on the last day as the
first.
Tucked away in the folds of the Wicklow Mountains, Glenmalure
Log Cabins sit on the south-westerly facing hillside and catch the first
rays of the morning sun.
Made of 100-year-old Spruce, the cabins are warm, cosy
and a hideaway from real life.
It's the best of both worlds because although the lodges
are easy to reach, it's hard to believe that you really are only an
hour's drive from Dublin.
Solid pine ceilings and a wood-burning stove keep the
Scandinavian theme going. The well-equipped lodges even provide a number
of DVDs for a relaxing night once the sun has set.
